sudo aptitude reinstall flashplugin-nonfree Worked for me. This is on Intrepid through a software upgrade, i386 / NVidia.
One thing I noticed in my Firefox plugins: It lists both Shockwave Flash 10.0 r12 and 9.0 r124. There were no plugins in my ~/.mozilla/firefox folder, so I did not have to remove anything before trying this command. But it worked!
