Patch in e2fsprogs git tree, but probably won't hit Ubuntu (per private
communication with Steve Langasek) until an upstream release is cut
(i.e., when e2fsprogs 1.41.2 is released). And we've already missed the
freeze window for Intrepid, so this probably won't get fixed until
Intrepid+1

Steve, thanks for the analysis. It was indeed a code bug in e2fsprogs,
and I've checked in the attached fix into e2fsprogs. It will be in the
next maintenance release (1.41.2) of e2fsprogs.
