How much RAM and what CPU does the host have?
I see you are running a 64bit system, right? I guess that means, you
have more than enough CPU and RAM. But it could be that vbox has some
64-bit issues.
FWIW, vbox runs fine for me. But I wish I had more RAM.

Wow, I almost forgot about this now :)
I haven't tried using it since I logged this issue, as it didn't make much
sense given I couldn't even install Ubuntu. Anyway, I've now installed
virtualbox-ose-modules-2.6.24-23-generic as I've upgraded the kernel, but I
have yet to replicate the issue bec
