I tried both the original 6.3.7-10 and 6.4.5 (ie. compiled both from
source). It seems like its fixed in the latter version. So bug 188773
(bump to 6.4.3) might fix this one, somebody should check.

Thanks for the detailed explanation about PPM, PGM, PBMs.
There are about 16 images in question (including original file).
1) [screenshot-for1.png] screen shot of file browser shows that it can open all
16 of them.
2) [screenshot-for2.png] screen shot of GIMP shows that 12 files are opened in
G
Just for clarificytion (and because I forget it all the time as well):
* PPMs are colored
* PGMs are greyscale
* PBMs are binary
Here's a screenshot from KDE4's dolphin:
* As you can see are the PGM totally distortet. Apart from that, if you
look at logo-resized-binary.pgm you can see that it

Just wanted to make sure we are on the same page.
Here are some lines from output of "dpkg -s" on my system (Hardy Ubuntu
8.04.1" as mentioned above)
dpkg -s imagemagick

Status: install ok installed

What do you mean by broken file? When I tried to generate the files
using above commands, It generated the files properly and I could open
them in the viewer without any problems.
I am even able to use the originally attached file (imbug.tar.bz2) and
open those images.
I am using following syste
