Just for clarificytion (and because I forget it all the time as well):
 * PPMs are colored
 * PGMs are greyscale
 * PBMs are binary

Here's a screenshot from KDE4's dolphin:

* As you can see are the PGM totally distortet. Apart from that, if you
look at logo-resized-binary.pgm you can see that it isn't correctly
resized because you can see only the tip of the hat and not the whole
wizard as above. The same is true for logo-cropped-binary.pgm if you
look closely.

* I think the PGMs weren't displayed correctly in KDE3 as well but I'm
not sure anymore.

* Anyway, if you try to load any of the binary files in Gimp (even the
ones where I didn't say broken), it will fail. But its not like Gimp
can't load binary PNMs, try the samples from
https://people.scs.fsu.edu/~burkardt/data/pnm/pnm.html

* I actually noticed this when a friend worked on an University project
and she tried to load binary PNMs generated by ImageMagick with some
third-party PNM-lib.

* I was able to reproduce this on Intrepid
(imagemagick_7:6.3.7.9.dfsg1-2ubuntu3).

* Which application did you use to open these files successfully?
