Reloading x using alt-ctrl-bkspc doesn't work for me, but a full cold boot does return the display to its native 1280x1024. A sidenote: since Intrepid Ibex doesn't work for me (locks up, looking for another thread), I tried a number of other distributions and found that many don't provide a fully

I ran the 915resolution package, rebooted, and the 1280x1024 resolution (and all the interim ones) were available. On boot, the screen resolution was 1280x1024 rather than 960x600. I can try to provide the files you asked about, but I'm not sure how to do any of it--running without any /etc/x11/x
