Well, I can't replicate it using the raw e2fsprogs tool directly, and
yongjunj reported it was fixed in a later version of gparted. If you
can reproduce it using just e2fsck and resize2fs, without using gparted,
please contact me and reopen this bug. I can't reproduce it using just
e2fsck and re

Anybody knows where can i ask the backport detail? I know i can have a
separate gparted liveCD, but i think that it makes sense to have as much
tools as possible in one disk, especially in the LTS.

This isn't an e2fsprogs bug, but rather an gparted bug. It's fixed in
gparted 0.3.7, and Ubuntu 8.10 is shipping gparted 0.3.8. I don't know
whether the bug fix can be backported Ubuntu 8.4 or not.

Got the same error while trying to shrink my windows partition and add
the extra space to my hardy's /
Indeed, there are a lot of hardy install cds with an outdated gparted
(mine was 0.3.5), so if you catch yourself in a middle of a resizing and
got this, maybe this may help you:
1. Open a termin
Looks like this is a GParted bug. GParted 0.3.7 fixes the problem.
