How is Harold?
a) that is not what could happen, comment #9 proposes to split Amarok's media
device plugins and them recommends, not libgpod4, libraries are not optional
either they get linked against or not.
b) Amarok does not build with libgpod4 without GTK+ support, last I checked.

As Harold proposed, why not to
a) move libgpod4 package to recommends or
b) make a choice between libgpod4 and libgpo4-nogtk with the former as default
for amarok package? Those who want artwork transfer will have it by default and
those who don't will be able to remove gtk2.

Its not just ipod, each of those media device plugins drags in at least
one lib, and this lib mostly some others. That is easily a couple of
MiBs on the live cd.
Also, the not-having-it-default is optional, we could have those plugins
as recommends, so users can, if they choose to, remove the ipod
But even with the media device plugins, you can either compile with
artwork or without, and not having iPod support by default just so a
very small group of users don't have to install a 2 MB library doesn't
sound like a good idea to me.

Well, technically, if the GTK+ depending stuff are media device plugins,
one could try moving those to seperate packges. Of course this needs to
be coordinated with Debian and is no easy thing to do. This would also
allow people to install only media-device plugins they need. And in
consequence, wi
It's not possible. You either have it or you don't, period.

It looks to me like gtk is no longer a dependency of xine-plugin, so
this dependency change shouldn't exist anymore.
