The Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta release was most recently announced -
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta . It contains the 2.6.27
Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if you could test and verify if this

Following yet another clean install a couple of months ago, the
situation at present is a hang at shutdown or restart but with the
desktop background visible minus menu any panels. Shutdown and restart
normal with ctrl+alt+backspace as before.

I am also experiencing this same problem with an install of hardy heron
8.04 upgraded from gutsy gibbon 7.10 the problem first appeared in one
of the late alphas , another box very similar ( both amd64x2 both Nvidia
cards and Nvidia propriatary driver) with a fresh install at beta and
updated to fi

Additionlally using NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver. Proper shutdown
from frozen screen achieved by CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE
