Again, I would add that having established such desktop icons,
packages like Kaffeine, VLC Player and Amarok are able to remember and
re-use media file storage locations, so it's a non-trivial fix.

For Ubuntu '8.04' (actually 8.04.1) it still doesn't automatically remember
mounted drive icons as per Ubuntu 7.10
Ubuntu 8.10 Beta (kernel 2.6.27-4-generic) has delayed ReStart or ShutDown
problems, not fixed by updated kernel 2.6.27-7-generic and also does not
automatically remember mounted driv

Correction - the only quick fix tool needed for Ubuntu 8.04 is System,
Administration, Storage Device Manager, added via Applications,
Add/Remove etc or as 'pysdm' with Synaptic, Search etc.
The problem doesn't arise with Ubuntu 7.10, because 'removeable drives' are
found and automatically mou

I have since found that this defect can be fixed using tools available under
Applications Add/Remove.. or by installed by Synaptic Search, Mark and Apply.
NTFS Configuration Tool (ntfs-config in Synaptic) can fix NTFS
partitions/drives and Storage Device Manager (pysdm in Synaptic) can fix NTFS
OK, OK so it's not a 'security bug', just a fundamental failure and
