I have the some problem. First, with the upgrade ubuntu 7.10 -> 8.04 the
gnome didn't start. With a refresh instalation I had problem loading the
gnome apllet and now the clock crash the all panel.

I understand that. Nonetheless, I can only reproduce it without the dbg
symbols. Like I said before, it only happens the first time. Once I restart
the gnome-panel during the same session, I don't see the error again. Sorry
I can't be of more help than that.

having the dbg installed should make no difference since those are only
debug symbols for gdb use

Bad news! Can't reproduce when -dbg package of gnome-panel is installed.

This seems to happen only at startup. After the gnome-panel has crashed
