After upgrading to version 8.10 Alpha6, I found the proprietary Nvidia drivers
173 & 177 included with an update.
The 177 installed without any problems and my card is working flawless except
during booting when I get an error:
undefined video mode number:307
But I guess that will be fixed in the
Bloesum:
1) the log is so short that I can't see the cause of the problem. Of course
it's not your fault.
2) to undo what EnvyNG did, type:
sudo envyng --uninstall-all

Bloesum: without a log it is difficult to say what caused the problem.
can you reproduce the problem and then (without rebooting) type this in the
command line?
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log $HOME/
then reboot and send me the Xorg.0.log which you will find in your home
directory

After asking a question (see

problem in this bug report. My x-server apperently became unstable after
a kernel update that came together with the latest EnvyNG update last
week. I guess I simply have to wait untill my video

Manually installing the Nvidia driver (.bin) works for me. The only
trick is that every single kernel update breaks X, which needs to be
fixed by re-running the installer from a console while X isn't running.

I can also confirm the same problem. Has anyone else been able to fix
it?
EnvyNG does not detect any suitable hardware and if I force it to
manually install it just breaks everything.
I downloaded and compiled the binary driver from Nvidia but this only
worked once... after a reboot, it comes up
Same here it doesn't work with my 9600GT card. Even the stable EnvyNG
doesn't work as it should.

I confirm, 9600 GT dont work with nvidia-glx-new.
