Hi David,
you don't have a black screen, right? I read:

I see the bouncing bar when the system starts up, it disappears just when it
should start to progress across the screen and instead I see the services and
daemons being loaded and started.

Hi Deadalus.
I've tried 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200
- all modes which can be displayed by the monitor and card. No luck.
I may need to open a new bug though. Here's my setup:
ATI Radeon 9200se 129mb

I use the "ati" driver i
I tried other resolutions:
1280x1024: not working
1280x800: works
1024x768: works
800x600: works
Just now I have realized that it is necessary to run update-initramfs to
apply usplash.conf settings.

I have uninstalled completely/reinstalled with Synaptic, although your commands
should bring to the same result.
Why do you launch dpkg-reconfigure after you edited usplash.conf? I can't get
the meaning...
Anyway, now my usplash.conf reports 1280x800, a resolution that I have
never tried before.
Regarding the above - does uninstalling and reinstalling usplash fix it?
I did a...

$ sudo apt-get install usplash usplash-theme-ubuntu
...then I edited my usplash.conf and changed the values to 1024x768 and
issued a...

It seems I have resolved by uninstalling completely usplash (included
configuration files) and reinstalling it.
Can someone resolve this problem with this procedure? If yes, this bug might be
set as invalid.

I have done "sudo dpkg-reconfigure usplash" as you mentioned above,
The most likely causes from the information we have here are a
framebuffer problem and a usplash problem.
Just so someone that knows what he's doing has information he might
need, post the first line from /boot/grub/menu.lst that begins with

Bootsplash not getting shown in hardy, ATI Radeo
Have you already tried to do CTRL+ALT+F1 (or F2-F3...)? When I'm not in
recovery mode, I'm not able to see anything but a black screen. ALT+F7 (to
return to X session) works.
If you can confirm this, this bug might be considered as medium or high
importance, because it doesn't allow to do partic
I can confirm this on a ASUS Pro-VL50 (same videocard). But if I try, with
notebook turned off, to connect the vga output to a projector and then I turn
on my computer, I can see the bootsplash on the projector output.
Can you confirm this?
