Happened to me after installing the Dropbox deb package using the
"Ubuntu Software Center". The install succeeded, but the whole process
was *incredibly* slow, and afterwards USC hung for 5 minutes, but
eventually closed on it's own.

I'm on 12.04 64-bit running on AMD, 4GB of RAM. The apport was running
for past 17 hours at 100% of CPU before I killed it... Not sure why - I
did have some small python script crashes, not sure if this could have
any influence.

I'm on 12.04 and have hit this too, BUT in my case it "just" appears to
be a very slow apport... due to a JVM crash, on a 8 GB workstation,
after what seemed like a long time (several minutes, with an SSD) of
90%-ish CPU usage from apport it did actually stop by itself - so may be
just producing a
That's in fact the plan. We will disable apport by default right before
releasing. It's primary purpose is to help for the development release.

Confirmed in Hardy for nearly all the dev process : apport hangs 2 times
for 3 crashes.
Some applications (like tracker) or gnome-applet crashes "often". The
webbrowser also crashes from time to time on some nasty javascript
pages. Those crashes are "acceptable" but now there are more and more
