Regression in SATA drive de
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Actually the above suggestion worked fine for my hardware:

It might be helpful to see the output of lsmod while running under a
kernel that sees all drives and one that sees only a subset. (I could
be way off here, but in Bryce's case at least, it sounds like there are
2 different chipsets involved, and in the new kernel, only one of them
has a driver loa
This probably won't help partial detection, but if there are this
"failed to IDENTIFY" messages, does booting with "pci=nomsi" as kernel
parameter help? In that case the problem is rather related to

Regression in SATA drive detection
Have been following this bug and also tried the suggested kernel. I
currently am using Kernel 2.6.14 from Gusty in order to have sata drive
detection. If I would not have upgraded I would not have been able to
boot hardy. I am experiencing the same identical issues as posted here
and after reviewin
I am experiencing this problem as well. If I boot the 2.6.22 kernel I get some
repeating messages:
ata1: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 Scontrol 300)
ata1.00: qctimeout (cmd 0xec)
ata1.00: failed to IDENTIFY (I/O error err_mask=0x4)
...
I have to use the older 2.6.20 kernel to boot into the
Oops, I should have waited a bit longer. Eventually it times out to
BusyBox with a message stating that it can't find the specific UUID
referenced in the GRUB boot statement. As I'm a bit new to GRUB and
BusyBox, can someone point me in the right direction to what I might
need to modify in the GR
Tim,
Sorry about the delay. I've been traveling and haven't been able to
test the new kernel until now. Unfortunately the system doesn't get
very far. It hangs just after unpacking the kernel (Ctl-Alt-F1 to get
to the console from the spash screen gives a "Loading Kernel..." message

I'm having what appears to be the same issue. I have a system with 5
SATA drives (one primary, and two in RAID1 pairs), which was set up
originally on Feisty. After upgrading to Gutsy, only 2 of the 5 drives
were enabled during boot; by switching back to the 2.6.20 kernel the
drives were present.
Richard - try this:
wget

sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.25-1-generic_2.6.25-1.2ubuntu3_amd64.deb
sudo reboot
