Hmm... that's interesting. I also use permission bits rather than ACLs
on my system. However, considering that /dev is mounted on tmpfs I'm not
sure what effect this should have, if any.
Also, the setfacl man page states the following:
"If setfacl is used on a file system which does not support A
I'm experiencing what looks like the same problem (PTP camera, detected
correctly, device ends up owned by root:root, worked under Gutsy), but
with a Canon EOS 400D.
I noticed that my log and Michael's both included references to setfacl
being invoked (rather than chmod as I would expect, I don't
I'll also attach the files described at

Don't know if this is of any help, but noticed that the camera appears
to be detected correctly by that rule:

access_control.file = '/dev/bus/usb/004/002' (string)

Thanks for the debug output so far. This seems to be a hal problem. I
checked that your camera is not explicitly mentioned in
/usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/10osvendor/20-libgphoto2.fdi, but it should
be caught by the general "PTP camera" rule ().
Can you please generate a hal debug output while you
