Really, it is as you said: on 600 MB, 350 are cached memory. This is not
distinguished from real memory in top nor in ksysguard (for kde3). but it is
distinguished in gkrellm and ksysguard-kde4.
Gasp, Akregator uses 10 MB of RAM!!! :)

I'm not sure, but I think top also includes disk cache in the memory
overview. "system monitor" under System->administration->system monitor
does take this into account, you can also easily sort the process table
on memory usage there. By default it shows only your processes, use
view->all processe
I have attached a screenshot of top that demonstrates what I have
