I am running 8.04 LTS and I really would like to see this bug resolved /
the package updated. It is really annoying and makes the kdepim stuff
almost unusable. This bug, however, does not seem specific to ubuntu but
stemming from the kdepim suite itself (version 3.5.9 it seems).

Yes, I am still seeing this.
I can't figure out a complete description of how to definitely reproduce
it.
But this seems usually to work:
Create an event in korganizer with an associated alarm a short time in the
future (a few minutes, for example). Pretty much always, it won't fire.
