Yes, the install was bootable. The message about the crash was on the
screen but I could see the progress bar and messages in the installer
still updating. I left the error message on the screen until I was sure
that the install had stopped writing to disk before clicking the button.
I reinstalle

It seems that leaving the error message on the screen and not clicking
close was enough to allow the install to complete.
It looks like there was a network problem perhaps?
