Regarding this bug (tracker applet there when trackerd is entirely
disabled), we don't need it to get check for X events, since there's no
need to pause trackerd, as it's disabled. So in this special case, it
makes sense to disable tracker-applet too.
For other cases (a user who uses t-s-t or desk
When indexing is enabled, the icon animates constantly (ie: it doesn't
stop when paused, the computer is in use or is on battery power).
Disabling tracker entirely does stop the animation. This is on the
latest Hardy.

Even when indexing is paused this thing is animated, so the animation

trackerd does not depend on X so cannot auto-pause on its own
it needs the tray icon/applet to do this (or some other X app)
other indexers have tray icons including google to allow manual pausing
and this is a desirable feature
its up to ubuntu devs whether to have the applet on by default or n

Sure. But my point is that if tracker automatically stops indexing when the user
is interacting with the computer, he won't probably need/want
well many users asked for this feature so I dont know what to do (they
want feedback on what the indexer is doing and progress)
I will have options to hide the icon if people find it annoying
But without a tray icon you will not be able to pause (or auto pause to
prevent system slowing down) eith

The plan for 0.6.5 is to have an "auto-pause feature to tracker-applet which
pauses trackerd for a few secs whenever a keyboard or mouse event is detected".

Frankly, this icon should not be there, ever. This is another symptom
of Microsoft Creeping Notifcation Area Disease (TM). These icons are
useless and annoying and the animation on the tracker icon is especially
egregious. Particularly annoying is that the tracker notification
animation appears
