I've resolved my issue, in my case it was either a bad usb drive i was
using for the install or the app i used to create the live usb.
First live usb was created with latest version of yumi and latest iso from
website.
I created a second live usb with a different drive, latest version of rufus,

from the snapd installation blocking. From this information, it appears
the lubuntu installer is trying to always pull GRUB from repo instead of
using the local version. That might be a design choice or a bug, but I

Also affecting System76 users on ISO installs. As a workaround,
installation can be completed by disconnecting entirely from Internet,
then performing a full apt update/upgrade post-install.
