Vista does not include drivers for the rtl card, which is the default
emulated NIC for kvm virtual machines.
Instead, you should use the e1000 card/driver.

I can reproduce this.
I have installed Vista in a VM, and just running kvm from the command
line, there's no network access.
It correctly sets the IP to 10.0.2.15, the gateway to 10.0.2.2, and the
dns to 10.0.2.3. But Vista's diagnostics points at 10.0.2.3

I'm sorry, I can't reproduce this.
I was able to install Vista in a Jaunty KVM, and use networking just
fine.
