Im running into a similar issue on karmic: While logged in as the first user, everything - even desktop effects - runs fine. Then switching to the second user via fast-user-switch, the system crawls down: start firefox and scroll down a large page. It will take a while. htop reports that the CP

I'd like to add that I get very similar symptoms. I'm running Gutsy on an Inspiron 5100 laptop that is shared between a family of four. I only really noticed because after 2+ users are logged in the fan will kick in and stay on permanently. Whereas usually it only come on every now and then. Check
