The usplash.conf fix worked wonders on my Toshiba Satellite 1900-101 notebook with Kubuntu Gutsy where the splashscreen was not visible and bootup was a 4 minute crawl. In usplash.conf the set resolution was 1280x1024 while the notebook's native resolution is 1024x768. Maybe updating the initrd fs

Sorry I should note that, - install with 32 bit version of Ubuntu was fine - amd 64 version is what caused the trouble - also I could not boot up 64 bit version until I turned off my wireless card and then updated through a wired connection, then turned on wireless card -- no bootsplash in Xubu
