This is a severe usability bug. ISVs have to support a plethora of
configurations if they provide versions for Linux at all (see Bug #1).
So we should keep the barrier of entrance to the Linux market for ISVs
as low as possible.
Often it is sufficient to use a 32 Bit version for all needs. AFAIK,
Agreed; this needs to be easier. With the command line, it's a simple
matter of adding --force-arch to dpkg invocation. An advanced options
dropdown/rollout with a tick box and a simple (very small, very
maintainable) internal list of archs supported by other archs would
solve it.

This same feature is required for devices with Ubuntu installed using
the lpia architecture. There is no reason why i386 binaries won't work
on these machines, but gdebi will not allow installation of these
packages. There is a real need to provide an "allowed architecture"
