What I read here are basically configuration problems. Yes, I know scim
can be a bitch to configure. Read the docs, most of the time it's
documented somewhere (although I also agree that the docs aren't in the
best shape, either).
I'll close this ticket now. Please report any new problems you m
A few things from slurge's earlier comment made it work again, I tried
im-switch -z en_IN -s scim-immodule. Nothing else, I didn't touch any
other file.

I can confirm it as still reproducible in 8.10 beta. My locale is set to
en_IN and as mentioned in Ming's earlier comment I tried im-switch -s
scim-immodule but that doesn't make my trigger keys do any work. Neither
clicking on the SCIM icon in the notification area show me any drop
down.

On a additional note, SCIM works only when your current focus is in a
text area. If you do not have a text area under current focus, the
trigger key combination is not going to show you the SCIM pop up not
clicking on the SCIM notification icon is going to show you a drop down.

Hi,
On 8.10 beta, I can remove the file ~/.xinput.d/fr_FR and it still works on GTK
and KDE applications (i.e. everywhere).
However, removing .scim/global remove the Ctrl+Space ability, I must manually
select "scim" as the input method for it to work.
im-switch -l give me "scim" as input method.
Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta or later?

I finally got it to work. I've installed everything related to scim (apart from
scim_uim).
Once scim is launched (you have the icon) and if it does not work, try the
following. Open gedit and right click in the text area.
Click on "Input method" and change it to scim. Now the ctrl+space and left

Thanks Ming Hua -- it took a little bit of searching but things worked
out ok. Just a little scary when something as basic as text input
breaks. Cheers, Allen

This is expected for non en_US locales. It's due to a change in gutsy.
To go back to feisty's behavior, GNOME users please try "im-switch -s
scim-immodule". KDE users (or more specifically, skim users) please read
documents and set up environment variables by yourself.

I'm finding this as well. Left-clicking on the scim icon to use pinyin
as I used to do in feisty doesn't work.
