I was able to get a pre-compiled set of Intel 2.5.0 drivers (with the
updated dri modules) and this still occurs.
Some 3D apps will work, while others just cause the system lock-up.

display driver, just mesa and the DRI driver (and libdrm).

I'm on a dell inspiron 1420n, and it only crashes in 3D apps. The mouse
locks up, and the screens' colors literally invert. Ctrl+Alt+Bksp
doesn't do anything, so I have to hit the power switch, which takes a
minute or two to shut down the computer. This hadn't happened until I
upgraded to Hardy.

I downloaded official Blender 2.46 sources from blender.org,

I did some searching, and it seems if you delete the i965tex directory from
src/mesa/drivers/dri/ it should compile. I have no idea why it's even
committed in the repository if its causing the build to fail. But if you
delete it, the build will succeed.

I am using a Thinkpad Z60t and am experiencing intermittent lockups in

I got some help on forum that i mentioned above, and i can use mesa_7_0_branch
now.
It is working on my system. I can use blender without crash, and it is fast.
I think this bug is fixed.

I tried again just now and get the same error... propably the tree is broken
for now.
some more info about my system:
HP compaq 6510b with gentoo (the x11 git packages pull from master)
there are also a lot of graphics gliches that were also there the last time I
tried mesa/intel driver/libdrm/dr
On this page ( https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11847 ) they say
this bug is fixed. I downloaded new mesa_7_0_branch[1] from git, and
new libdrm[2] with kernel modules. I patched mesa branch with ubuntu patches[3],
compiled successfully under ubuntu hardy, but glxinfo reports:

Actually, tomorrow (06/17/08) will mark one year since the opening of
this bug. This bug seems to be reported just about everywhere, and even
multiple times at each place. The folks over at #228526 seem be happy
with their fix. I will wait until Intrepid, if it is not fixed by then,

return the laptop and get an other model if you can.
Motin: I tried the latest git of mesa/i810 driver about the time of your
message and it didn't fix the problem for me.

I've an Hp Compaq 6720s with Intel 965 card.
If I disable DRI in my xorg.conf I get no error to use applications such
World of Warcraft, Blender ecc... (but they run too slow), if I enable
DRI, then I can't use that.
Now I'm using Gentoo and the problem is present here too, not only in
Ubunt
