The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

I never got Linux to work on that machine. Thankfully it will be replaced
soon. Sorry about you difficulty, graphics driver issues can be painful
with linux. The Black Screen of Death is worst than the BSOD. Good luck.

Well, using the option "noacpi acpi=off apm=on" didn't work nor did any
other variation. I tried Xubuntu with in every variation as well with
no success. When I reduced the resolution and color to the lower
setting (using F4) it got far enough to show Ubuntu (or Xubuntu when I
tried that) image w
The correct syntax of the kernel option they are talking about is
"acpi=off" not "acpi=false". You might also want to look at using
Xubuntu (an Ubuntu derivative using the XFCE window manager) as that may
use less memory than the Gnome desktop environment.
