Actually I was able to get splashy working by activating the framebuffer.
You need to add "vesafb" and "fbcon" (without the quotes) to
/etc/initramfs-tools/modules
and un-blacklist vesafb from /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer
Update the initramfs
"sudo update-initramfs -u"
and add the vga=xxx
Same bug using Ubuntu 8.04 beta. Tried with vga=..., added framebuffer
support, using png files (I heard that jpg files are not supported?).
Anyway it just doesn't work and there seems to be no bugfix yet!
