Thanks for your answer. I've discoverd what was wrong: the libstdc
wasn't loaded in Dapper Drake. I discovered this when running vuescan as
root in a terminal, when it mentioned this file being missing. I must
say it cost me several days, however, to realize this problem could only
be solved instal
I have Feisty also and Minolta Scan Elite II and cannot access the scanner.
Even with root. Checked all permissions and groups.
It worked fine on the older Ubuntu releases.
strace on vuescan dont give me anything conclusive to me.

I have used Vuescan very successfully with older kubuntu releases and
now with Feisty Fawn (7.04).
It works flawlessly with my Nikon coolscan ls-5000 (I scanned 1016
slides last week) and also with my Epson V700 - no problems.
I suggest you check your permissions on the /dev/bus/usb devices, you
