So it actually is a bug in Ubuntu Thunderbird -- Thunderbird has problems
running zimbra email.
Also, the messages almost definitely have to do with the lag that i am
seeing -- they occur at exactly the same time.
Only one thing wrong with that: Thunderbird on my wife's Wi
The messages come from glib, but indicate an error in thunderbird. They
may or may not have anything to do with the lag you are seeing.

I just downloaded the new version of ubuntu. (BTW, i have loads of spare
memory and disk space). I started Thunderbird in a terminal. Here's what
shows in the terminal when I double click on an item; and then I double
clicked on another item:
saul@NullA:~$ thunderbird
(thunderbird:3175): GLib-G
Open the update manager, click settings, and select "Any new version"
under "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version".
