I just experienced similar problems in 8.10 Intrepid. Here is what was
happening:
1) Click on the menu to launch nautilus (Places ->Home Folder)
2) Nautilus launches, turns grey within 10 seconds, and consumes 90%+ cpu. Only
way out is to kill the nautilus window
3) I did a reboot but still happe
I am running gutsy here and nautilus is stuck with full CPU usage and

It also starts filling up all memory.

I am experiencing a similar issue (running feisty). It's not just any
svg file that causes this. I had to have two svg files: one downloaded
from OpenClipart (router.svg) that was in the Desktop directory and one
created by MS Visio (servers.svg) in my home directory. When I opened up

I have a very similar problem, which I should add here for completeness.
If I open a directory with nautilus that contains svg files, icons fail
to display correctly (those listed before the .svg file do, those
alphabetically after it don't), and nautilus is ok until I try to
delete, copy, move or
Perhaps I had the same problem after all. I got the desktop to display
but still wasn't able to open it in nautilus or in the file selector
dialogue. Nautilus hung and pegged the CPU.
I moved everything from my desktop to a backup directory, and moved
items back one-by-one. The culprit was a cu
I think this is due to something different,
changing the zoom at my system hasn't got influence,
I think it is due to a bug in the svg library which hangs on a image on
my computer.

could find. After logging in nautilus would hang and peg the cpu. I

What icon theme do you use? It looks like the bug is trigger by the

I hope this went okay, I attached the debugger while nautilus already
hang...
Nautilus this time responded as without debug-version.
I first had nautilus started from the debugger, but nautilus restarted
immediately, so no stacktrace could be made then, I decided to reduce

sorry, always forget to mention that, I'm running feisty.
I've made 2 backtraces.
One where I started nautilus from the debugger, and one where I attached
the debugger to an already open naulius.
The naulius-dbg application seems to react differently then with dbg-

Thank you for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Does it stop
using 100% CPU after some time? Could you get a backtrace during the
lock (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace)? Do you have an easy way to
trigger it?
