T
Thanks for testing, Toby. So one way around this bug would be to run
the LTS backport kernel on 12.04.
However, I'd also like to see if this bug is already resolved in the
latest upstream v3.2 stable kernel. Can folks affected by this bug test
the following kernel:
v3.2.40: http://kernel.ubuntu
I can confirm the upgrading to 12.10 fixed the issue for me. I tried the
latest 3.8 kernel package before that but couldn't boot with it.

Same problem here, on a Dell Latitude C840 with a clean install of
Ubuntu 12.04.2. I can try to install from the CD or start the installer
from the LiveCD, there is always this kernel bug thrown, and the system
hangs.
The laptop is connected only to the LAN, but WiFi hardware is present.

Same problem here on a Lenovo W500 with a 5300 card. I can reproduce
this bug within 10 mins over and over again. Ubuntu will seem to "hang"
while it's unloading / loading the kernel module(not sure about this,
but it's what it seems like to me). Tried latest mainline kernel without
any improvement
I'm using ubuntu 12.10 and I am facing this issue recently.
It usually occurs when I turn on and off the wifi of my Dell Laptop.

Kernel panics when connected to wifi

v3.5-rc6-quantal hangs at the startup screen. However switching back and
forth between a shell and login screen (alt-F2 and then alt-F7) somehow
"fixes" the wait and allows you to login immediately.

I've just tried kernel v3.5-rc6-quantal on 12.04, and still the computer
(Asus Zenbook UX31A) hangs for about 60 seconds at the login screen.
This only happens when I start the computer on battery.
If I start it connected to the mains, it does not hang at the login
screen.

I haven't experienced any kernel panics with the v3.5-rc4-quantal kernel
yet, but another problem not present in the earlier kernel version has
been occurring. I don't know whether its related to wifi.
The problem is that during boot up, the computer hangs before rendering

I'm testing with the v3.5-rc4-quantal kernel version. I'll post tomorrow
on whether my machine experiences any kernel panics.

I should also mention that I didn't have linux on this computer before

I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 fresh yesterday, so I'm using the kernel
that ships with Ubuntu 12.04. I didn't experience any kernel panics in
the few hours I was using my wifi at home yesterday, but on two separate
wifi networks today, I've experienced multiple kernel panics.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the
introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.
