Sorry to have taken this long, however I wanted to try it twice.
I used the first suggestions (Upgrading the BIOS using Dell's "biodisk"
and "syslinux memdisk")
I followed the instructions precicely, all went well until I started

Just installed Ubuntu 12.10 beta 2, there is no 5GHz connection, By
earlier testing 3.5.0, I thought that the support for 5 GHz was to be
included in version 12.10. I am sadly mistaken.
