How is this resolved? I'm having same problem but with ubuntu15.10 with
kernel 4.2. Reboot works fine but when I try shutting down, I get to the
ubuntu purple splash screen with text saying reboot: powering down or
something like that and it just freeze. I waited like 4 hours and it's
stuck. I had
Bryce, to me this bug seems to be a regression, as I have a working 7.10
partition with FGRLX and Compiz. Maybe going back to an older driver
would work. I would be happy to test it if you let me know which driver
you think is best and provide a link to a download or .deb file.

On Ubuntu 8.10 Beta the install and x-fix recovery script fail to
configure X11 on Toshiba A215 with an ATI x1300.
After the initial boot I intalled mplayer and tried to play a video.
Mplayer failed with a no screen found error. So I ran xvinfo and
determined that I was not

I am having this problem as well. The disks partitions were setup with
Ubuntu 8.04 gParted, so I am not quite certain how Xubuntu can not read
the partitions. (I did notice a line in the syslog about the sd driver
needing to be updating "Sep 17 00:23:07 ubuntu kernel: [ 78.961984]

this is after the horiztonal loading screen has been going for ~2-3
mins. cd and hdd drives stop for a bit (while the horizontal bar is
loading) for the last minute then the blank screen.
