I have to agree with elias's comments on the 8/10/07 this is an
embarrassing situation for Ubuntu. I, like so many others experience
this problem and have been tracking this bug report for a long while; I
mean, it has been going now for 8 months! I see little or no point in
giving more information

Original problem reported in March 2007. Lots of people with the same
problem (including me, exactly the same as original poster on T41). No
progress in 4 months!
