We're running 12.04 on Hyper V, and have now run into this problem.
Starting the hv-kvp-daemon-init start service fails silently:
sudo service hv-kvp-daemon-init start
hv-kvp-daemon-init start/running, process
Running the hv-kvp-daemon-init command direclty hightlights the version
differenc
This seems to be fixed in the Intrepid Ibex beta?

desktop, not mirrored), the gnome startup stops before the panels or
keyboard shortcuts are functional.

I have the same problem in gutsy, with all of the latest updates.
It usually happens when the gnome-screensaver has been active for a
while. It has happened with a Radeon 9200 and Matrox Graphics G400/G450
graphic cards.

Hi.
I can comfirm this bug. I'm on Feisty, using vim 7.0.164 and gnome-
terminal. I had the same problem in bash, but this was resolved by
adding export INPUTRC=/etc/inputrc to /etc/bas.bashrc (see bug 89235).
Although it works in the terminal, vi still gives the control codes.
