The 'grub workarounds' DID work for me (Lubuntu 16.04 on 1000H; once I
stumbled across right search keywords, they are 'easy' do/try, tho I
don't understand HOW they work).

to use the disc and hoping I'll be able to retrieve some of my files and
then I'll upgrade to the latest edition of Ubuntu, but I'll do a complete
reinstall. I felt fairly pissed off about it at the time, but I'm over it

had after upgrading to Karmic. Firefox kept crashing. I reported this bug
and got a message asking me to report it using apport. When I did that I
got an error message telling me to upgrade tzdata. When I did that I fri
I did work it out eventually, and the bug has been reported on apport.

receive audio on the BBC iplayer, not video.
BBC iplayer works in "listen live" mode, but not in "listen again" mode
