for some reason i had same problem with ubuntu 12.04
i did:
sudo apt-get install gnome-web-photo libgoo-canvas-perl nautilus-sendto
and it fixed the issue.

nouveau caus
just did a clean installation of 11.10, (this time 32 bit), which comes with
nouveau driver as default.
when i try to suspend i get the splash screen you usually see when you boot
ubuntu, and the system freezes dead.
in other words: problem exists also in new distribution only is is worse
becaus
currently using 275.19 driver. no cure. problem still exists.

i have a similar bug.
i tried installing 173 driver on natty because of another bug.

x didnt start. had to use vesa to change the driver back.
i think the same thing was reported by someone else in the spoken bug.

hp with geforce 6150 go, incresing memory in bios helps me too.
bruno- if you dont have this option in bios, you should try other
workarounds such as using a different driver (eg. 173).

the instructions in the site you mentioned seem difficult and besides i dont
have the option to install the nouveau driver in Jocky anyomre.

if i switch to Nouveau driver and try to suspend, the system crashes.

i tried some stuff again, and it seems that what fixed the problem was not the
different kernel but the nvidia driver i installed.
right now it seems the bug is related to Nouveau driver or to unity of both.
the weird thing though is that the bug repeated itself also after i stopped the
x with 's
i have already tested that. problem exists also with natty-proposed
2.6.38-9.

update: the problem doesn't exist in the mainline kernel.
i installed different versions (eg. 2.6.38.5, 2.6.37, and 2.6.35.6) of the
kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/, and in all of them
i was able to suspend and resume flawlessly.
