Thanks for this great solution. I stumbled on this solution after filing another bug here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/448825 Now, my screen loads to normal and I have all my 'Extra' compiz effects back. However, I may not close the bug until THIS NEW ISSUE of WLAN is fixed.
