Getting this same bug today brought me this way while trying to file similar bug.
I got a workaround that might help the developers anyways. Whenever I finish a new media file (song/video/flv etc.) I'll have to QUIT Totem Movie Player, PLAY another media file (like inside Rhythm Box), PAUSE or STOP the media inside the RhythmBox then relaunch Totem Movie Player with the next media or launch a new file inside Totem. This BUG and Workaround is highly repeatable! IMO: it has to do with reinitialization of the file after use or not getting handle to the sound driver or whatsoever. Which is done after you launch other sound players.
