P.S. I was having the exact same lock up problems when I reverted back
to 100.14 anyhow (though opengl was again working).

Thanks! That did indeed work but yet again my video playback no longer
works. Hopefully I won't have the funky lag/lockups like I did
originally though. If so, it's back to nv drivers for me (at least
until nvidia gets everything fixed properly).

Yeah I'm having the same issues as Jonah. I have a 7300 with a 3800+ x2
processor. I tried installing 169.04 but I couldn't get it to work.
It would complain about no valid screens and X wouldn't load. Before I
tried updating (while I was still using the nvidia driver) I was

Updating to the latest nvidia driver fixed this issue. It can be found

I'm using nvidiea-glx-new as well. I thought maybe it might have had
something to do with amarok at first. The thing is I've tried it after
rebooting into a fresh session multiple times and experienced the same
issues with no other programs running. Very strange indeed.
