The deployment code (plugin and webstart) has not been released yet.
Therefore the fix to this bug is to remove the manpages and desktop
file.

p.s. we are working on liberating that code (not ETA yet)

The sources for the DLJ bundles against which this bug was filed are
not available under the GPL. We sincerely hope to have a 100% GPL
version of OpenJDK (JDK 7 alpha) available as soon as possible -- with
help from the community.

I'm sorry, modifying the man pages is not currently permitted under the

Regarding the generation of copyright. This may be a little unusual, but is
intended
to be helpful for complex packages to actually clarify and make explicit the
copyright notices and licenses for the packaging, upstream and any
third party code.
We do this now in Debian and Ubuntu for sun-java
Yes, I regret that we had to make this an "installer" package (think flash)
because
of some terms in the netbeans5.5 license.
Now every other package is either straight CDDL or third party open

Version 0.59 should correct all address all outstanding concerns:

* Used Debian GPL reference in copyright for NetBeans platform third

* Removed lintian overrides for common-license-file-for-gpl
* Added netbeans5.5.prerm to re

It would seem unlikely that the root cause is in the JDK as there are very
few shell scripts included (specifically the launcher is native):
techno:/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/bin# file -L * | grep -i shell
ControlPanel: Bourne shell script text executable
HtmlConverter: Bourne shell script text
I have just booted to Edgy running 2.6.17-10-sparc64-smp
and I do not have this problem. The system boots (and reboots)
without hanging or powering off.
It is quite likely due to down-rev'd firmware.
Please note the large number of HV related fixes
in the latest version, which can be found here:
