Ugh. It turns out an antenna lead had come unhooked. With that remedied,
things look much better now.

Fwiw- upgrade to development 20.10 (w/ 5.8.0-18-generic) shows me one,
very nearby (in the same room) 2.4ghz SSID but not the 5ghz SSID
advertised from the same device.
Attempts to connect to the 2.4ghz SSID result in:
