I have actually run across this issue with partitions of other Os's as
well.Normally,
Ubuntu will automatically detect my windows partition, however if I were to
turn off the power to the computer without shutting it down using the
windows shutdown sequence, the Windows partition, if not shut down
I seemed to find a cause and woraround.
What happended was, when I unplugged it from the Mac's at school without
properly unmounting it, it would not mount at home, and was being read as "read
only".
when I returned to school and plugged it back in to any Mac, and *then*

I'm having a similar problem.
My fat32 formatted iPod video will not mount at all,
and my hfs+ formatted LaCie external harddrive WILL mount, but only as
read-only.

It also does not shut down peripherals such as my usb mouse.

Well, the screenshot just showed a blue screen where the movie was,
but to describe it, lots of horizontal lines display out of alignment to the
right.
so the whole picture looks grainy.
This was a problem in Fiesty too. and as I said, videos from the hard drive
play fine.

This happened to me too.
Some python errors, update manager crashed,
and now, the default boot does not function.
I have to open the grub menu and select the oldest generic line in order to
boot.
It calls itself Gutsy (although it did not complete the install) the gnome hal
splash screen does not

I was tired.
when I said "noapi=off", I meant "acpi=off"
I did it like you suggested.
This is in the kernel line in grub, so I know it worked.(as well as installing
the OS in the first place.)

That "workaround" turned out to be a false alarm.
It *randomly* does not turn on the screen about every-other time it
boots.
Also, when it does boot with the screen functioning, when logged in, it
does not power the pci card slot, so won't activate/detect a wireless
modem card.(the lights d
