Suspend works for my with Hardy and my Sony Vaio VGN-TZ190N.
I had to do this:
In /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules, have the text: SUSPEND_MODULES="ehci_hcd"
In /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, add the line: blacklist uvcvideo
I tried putting uvcvideo in SUSPEND_MODULES, both before and after
ehci_hcd,
I cannot reproduce this with Hardy as of today. So, I would consider
this bug fixed.

The machine is using 2.6.22-10-generic.
I use another computer to get work done, so there's no problem
experimenting with this one. I agree to be the guinea pig for trying
out SystemTap or other custom kernels.

Okay. I added 'set -x' on a new line immediately after the

Then I ran "sudo /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force" from a virtual terminal.

I saw the same issue on gutsy just now. I tried telling the date and
time applet to synchronize with internet servers. It couldn't find the
ntp package, but nonetheless seemed to be able to do an ntpdate call.

I have a Dell X10 laptop running Ubuntu feisty.
I suspended the laptop. I unsuspended. Usually this works fine,
however, in this case, the screen remained blank for quite a while, even
though I pressed the shift key several time
This just happened to me on feisty. The "You held down the shift key
for 8 seconds, do you want to activate slow keys" dialog was on my
screen, but hidden behind another window. The feature was activated,
and when I deactivated it, everything was back to normal.
My machine was not under heavy IO
I see the same thing. I worked around it by explicitly running jack
with python 2.4. Then it works fine.

related problem with a Sitecom WL-171 (RaLink RT2561/RT61), and
NetworkManager Applet 0.6.4.
I can use the wireless network just fine if I connect using dhclient
ra0. However, I can't get network manager to actually connect, even if
