I have a serial application on 8.10 that pump out serial data at interval of
one sec. when i run the application in terminal every thing work fine
but when i port it to start at rc.local and even in session start(user login).
the serial just do not work.

I try the script again, the result is the same.

by root rather than user.

Not sure if this is a bug
but i am wondering , for application that are ran using the auto start
function in session, why are they under root than user?
i wrote a simple script file
ls -l /dev/ttyS* > /home/user/Desktop/Session_ttyS_.txt
who > /home/user/Desktop/Session_Who
have any one experience this before? I have try it back on my
installation on 7.04 every thing work fine, please advice

currently using 8.04 ubuntu, with gcc,g++ latest version
I have a dummy c program sending out serial string out to a serial port. i.e.
/dev/ttyS0
when this application is exec from the terminal in side ubuntu, every works ok.
but when i try to run it on boot up, i.e. place
oic, just a side question, is there any way to disable the date check
that come in after 7.10. my bios battery is dead on my platform, so when
i use any version higher that 7.10 it will always prompt me about the
date and it prevent my application from autostarting

I perform a sudo apt-get update, to up date all the stuff
then i try to do a sudo apt-get install build-essential
but i always get the following message.

I have not try out any patches yet, is that any patch for this issue?
