I also upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 (beta1 if I remeber correctly). In order
to make mounting work I had to create a new folder in /media/ manually with my
login/username as folder name. The only thing left is: What are the correct
rights to set for /media/ and /media/?

Argh! A previous manual install caused the plugin not to load. I thought
I have removed every manually installed file but a very long "ldd"
session showed a library that I missed. Sorry for the noise.
