I also upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 (beta1 if I remeber correctly). In order to make mounting work I had to create a new folder in /media/ manually with my login/username as folder name. The only thing left is: What are the correct rights to set for /media/ and /media/<username>? I might guess the folder is added automatically on new installs during "adduser" or something like that and is missing for upgrades?
