Great ... Fixed it (for me) ... maybe my solution works for you too?
The problem seems to be the "ibus-config". I started "ibus-setup" and
under "Eingabemethode/input method" I activated the option "Aktive
Eingabemethode anpassen/configure active input method(?)" and selected
the already activated
Same problem here. Anytime I restart the GNOME-Shell I have to
reconfigure the keyboard to represent the german layout.

Solved my gnome-shell-issue from above by creating a symbolic link for
the libwayland-egl.so.1 :
# ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libwayland
/usr/lib
But "telinit u" still crashes the machine!
BTW: The interface of this forum is realy bad.

After using the recovery-option in grub you mentioned above nothing
works after reboot.
The gnome-session/GDM is not starting anymore and "telinit u" still
crashes the machine.
